Doston se bhi kabhi kabaar milaa karo!!!!

Duniya mein koi kisi ke liye kuch nahi karta
Marne wale ke saath har koi nahi marta
Arey… Marne ki baat to door rahi
Yahan toh zindgi hai phir bhi koi yaad nahi karta..

Microsoft made to release 'Windows Workgroup' protocols

Protocol Freedom Information Foundation (PFIF) has signed an agreement with
Microsoft to release their protocols relating to Windows Work Group Server.
The Foundation agrees to pay MS $10,000, and the agreement does not cover
patents. This agreement apparently was made to somewhat satisfy the EU
Commission complaints. With PFIF's objective to aid open source, this
agreement means that the Samba Team may finally get the information they
need to fully interoperate with Windows AD servers.

We can now hope to see GNU/Linux Systems being able to access windows
networks and resources more efficiently than before, when the Samba team
will implement the protocol with the information that they receive now. And
then it will be released under the GPL.

Kerala IT firms booked for software piracy

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 20 : A three-member team from the legal department of Microsoft Corp inspected a few computer software companies here Thursday and found widespread use of pirated software.

Speaking to IANS, superintendent of police Arun Kumar Sinha confirmed that the legal wing of Microsoft had registered a complaint with them and sought assistance for conducting raids.

"Our officials assisted the Microsoft team in the raid at a few firms in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts," Sinha said.

"We have found widespread use of their pirated software. The police has registered a case under the Copyright Act against the IT firms that have violated the rule of law," said Sinha.

Microsoft In for More Trouble in Kerala

TRIVANDRUM — After kicking out Microsoft operating system from schools, the southern Kerala state is exploring other areas where the Windows can be replaced with freeware. According to the state education minister, M.A. Baby, high school students will completely shift to the free software by March, 2008 and all efforts are being made to popularize open source code software wherever possible. The state IT Mission has developed a number of alternatives to the monopolies, distributing freely to the public. The next target is Akshaya e-literacy project, claimed to be the world’s biggest digital community with 6.4 million people logging on to the Web through village knowledge centers.

Making the best of me..

Trying The Best
I am just learning to allow to make to the best of me,
I know its hard-wearing but still want it to get of me,
I want to live in the way of me,
I dont know how but still to find out of me,
I can feel the lust for success in me,
but I am bullied by the mind to see the future of me,
I want myself to be energetic to reach the destiny of me,
I will do it someday when the whole world would reach out of me,
I live on vibrating behind a thin veil you cannot see through for me,
I know you will not see me but i will be there when you need me,
I kissed the past out of me,
I am in present and future is waiting of me,
I need to freshen things around me,
But i need help to work it out for me,
God has made death a narrow to me,
But still i want to get the best of me,
because god knows there is infinte passion for life in me,
thats why i am learning to allow to make to the best of me!

Lifez always taking a toll on you!!

Well done with my final year exams and into the second sem. Not much to think of right now but of project, gre, toefl, M.S in U.S and stuff. The same mind boggling stuff that all the guys of my age group are upto now. Well, but somewhere down there i have got a feeling, that i am missing something more important in life than all this.
Well am i happy with the way i am, nope.. well am i happy with the way my frnds and dear one's are, again the answer is a NO. But still we drag on and on and on and keep going just to accomplish something that we cannot even visualize with perfection... hhhmmm.. Well most of you going through this might think what the heck matter's??... right??.. well try relating it to your own life.. your daily routine. your daily chores you do right from the time you try to get that lazy body of yours out and struggling to find your slippers still at 5:30 in the morning... and untill you are back in bed again maybe at around 11:00 or 11:30..
Now how many of you going thru this, agree that all the work you do since morning from he time you get up.. gives you complete self-satisfaction???
I guess just a few which i cant be mentioning here, but apart from that stuff, none... right???.
hhhmmm.. lifez become so busy, dancing to the tune of others, staring at computers which stare back at you just as if it was the girl of your dreams, waiting for you to give it a real tight hug..
Just like this post which leads us to no where, our lifes have also become so monotonous and all materialistic. we live a life. but its not our own life. its being ruled and governed by others who we are not even aware of .....

Top 10 Security/Hacking Tools & Utilities

1. Nmap

I think everyone has heard of this one, recently evolved into the 4.x series.

Nmap (”Network Mapper”) is a free open source utility for network exploration or security auditing. It was designed to rapidly scan large networks, although it works fine against single hosts. Nmap uses raw IP packets in novel ways to determine what hosts are available on the network, what services (application name and version) those hosts are offering, what operating systems (and OS versions) they are running, what type of packet filters/firewalls are in use, and dozens of other characteristics. Nmap runs on most types of computers and both console and graphical versions are available. Nmap is free and open source.

Can be used by beginners (-sT) or by pros alike (–packet_trace). A very versatile tool, once you fully understand the results.

2. Nessus Remote Security Scanner

Recently went closed source, but is still essentially free. Works with a client-server framework.

Nessus is the world’s most popular vulnerability scanner used in over 75,000 organizations world-wide. Many of the world’s largest organizations are realizing significant cost savings by using Nessus to audit business-critical enterprise devices and applications.

3. John the Ripper

John the Ripper is a fast password cracker, currently available for many flavors of Unix (11 are officially supported, not counting different architectures), DOS, Win32, BeOS, and OpenVMS. Its primary purpose is to detect weak Unix passwords. Besides several crypt(3) password hash types most commonly found on various Unix flavors, supported out of the box are Kerberos AFS and Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 LM hashes, plus several more with contributed patches.

You can get JTR Here

4. Nikto

Nikto is an Open Source (GPL) web server scanner which performs comprehensive tests against web servers for multiple items, including over 3200 potentially dangerous files/CGIs, versions on over 625 servers, and version specific problems on over 230 servers. Scan items and plugins are frequently updated and can be automatically updated (if desired).

Nikto is a good CGI scanner, there are some other tools that go well with Nikto (focus on http fingerprinting or Google hacking/info gathering etc, another article for just those).

5. SuperScan

Powerful TCP port scanner, pinger, resolver. SuperScan 4 is an update of the highly popular Windows port scanning tool, SuperScan.

If you need an alternative for nmap on Windows with a decent interface, I suggest you check this out, it’s pretty nice.

6. p0f

P0f v2 is a versatile passive OS fingerprinting tool. P0f can identify the operating system on:

- machines that connect to your box (SYN mode),
- machines you connect to (SYN+ACK mode),
- machine you cannot connect to (RST+ mode),
- machines whose communications you can observe.

Basically it can fingerprint anything, just by listening, it doesn’t make ANY active connections to the target machine.

7. Wireshark (Formely Ethereal)

Wireshark is a GTK+-based network protocol analyzer, or sniffer, that lets you capture and interactively browse the contents of network frames. The goal of the project is to create a commercial-quality analyzer for Unix and to give Wireshark features that are missing from closed-source sniffers.

Works great on both Linux and Windows (with a GUI), easy to use and can reconstruct TCP/IP Streams! Will do a tutorial on Wireshark later.

8. Yersinia

Yersinia is a network tool designed to take advantage of some weakeness in different Layer 2 protocols. It pretends to be a solid framework for analyzing and testing the deployed networks and systems. Currently, the following network protocols are implemented: Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Cisco Discovery Protocol (CDP), Dynamic Trunking Protocol (DTP), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP), IEEE 802.1q, Inter-Switch Link Protocol (ISL), VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP).

9. Eraser

Eraser is an advanced security tool (for Windows), which allows you to completely remove sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it several times with carefully selected patterns. Works with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP and DOS. Eraser is Free software and its source code is released under GNU General Public License.

An excellent tool for keeping your data really safe, if you’ve deleted it..make sure it’s really gone, you don’t want it hanging around to bite you in the ASS.

Get Eraser Here.

14. NetStumbler

Yes a decent wireless tool for Windows! Sadly not as powerful as it’s Linux counterparts, but it’s easy to use and has a nice interface, good for the basics of war-driving.

NetStumbler is a tool for Windows that allows you to detect Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) using 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g. It has many uses:

  • Verify that your network is set up the way you intended.
  • Find locations with poor coverage in your WLAN.
  • Detect other networks that may be causing interference on your network.
  • Detect unauthorized “rogue” access points in your workplace.
  • Help aim directional antennas for long-haul WLAN links.
  • Use it recreationally for WarDriving.
